Met Tom at the Hill of Life this morning at 7:00 AM and we ran 8 reps of the HOL. A great run with heart rate bouncing at 170 as we finished each rep and HR at 165 to 167 for most of the run each rep. The HOL is 1/2 mile long, steep, rocky, perfect training for Pikes Peak. One rep gives you 1 mile.
Last Thursday the podiatrist treated what was left of plantar seed warts with the special medicine that is derived from beetles. So the pain in the right foot was pretty good this morning which made this run even more special as I ran mostly from the push of the left leg and pivoted with the right leg/foot. It really felt good to get out and sweat profusely.
We met some old guys (68 and 70 years old) who are training to climb a 19,000 foot mountain in Africa in mid July. These guys are in awesome condition. I never would have guessed they were that old. I told them about the book, Younger Next Year, and told them that they are doing the single most important thing to prolong a quality life, with their conditioning exercise that they obviously embrace. They are going to get copies of the book.
Just a great run. Then when I got home, Lynn and I took our grand-daughter, Tapainga, down to Russell Beach on Lake Georgetown and Tapainga and I went swimming and had a ball. What a day. We helped 3 other boys gather rocks off the lake bottom and built a fortress with them on the beach. Tapainga thinks Texas is awesome. |
